A Saturday Well Spent

Saturday mornings have a way of starting slowly around here.

Coffee first. Always.

Poe is usually up before Ash, sitting on the porch with the radio playing somewhere behind him and a mug warming his hands. Ash eventually appears when he decides the morning has officially become worth participating in.

There’s rarely much of a plan.

Maybe they’ll head into town. Maybe there’s an estate sale someone mentioned, or a flea market worth wandering through. Maybe they’ll stop at the record shop and come home with something they absolutely did not need.

That happens more often than either of them would admit.

Poe likes things with a little history to them. Old tools. Worn leather. Paintings with no signatures. Records in dusty sleeves. Things someone else has overlooked.

Ash has different criteria.

He knows a good chair when he sees one.

By afternoon, they’re usually back home with at least one new project and considerably less room in the shed.

Poe will insist whatever they dragged home only needs “a little work.”

Ash knows better.

Eventually the tools come out. The radio gets turned up. Something gets taken apart that probably didn't need to be taken apart.

And somehow, by the end of the day, it's better than it was.

Not perfect.

Just theirs.

Around here, that counts as a Saturday well spent.
